Mauritius won four gold medals, including three in judo and one in swimming, on the first day of competition at the Indian Ocean Games (JIOi) 2023 currently being held in Madagascar. All four medals were won in the women’s category.
The first gold medal for Mauritius was won by Sarah Sylva in the -52 kg category. The inexhaustible Christiane Legentil was the strongest in -57 kg, while Clarence Jean Pierre topped the podium in -63 kg.
In swimming, Tessa Ip Hen Cheung won gold in the 50 m breaststroke.
