The Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, accompanied by the Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs K. Nandini Singla, and a delegation from India, visited this afternoon, the new building of the Civil Service College, Mauritius (CSCM), in Réduit.
The CSCM project, funded by a USD 4.74 million grant from the Government of India, aims at meeting the training needs of the public sector at large, including state-owned enterprises and serve as a regional centre of excellence. The state-of-the-art and disability-friendly infrastructure encompasses an Academic Block and an Auditorium.
As at 30 June 2024, overall construction works had reached 84%, with specific components nearing finalisation: the Academic Block at 96%, the Auditorium at 85%, and external works encompassing landscaping and parking slots at 82%. Construction works began in January 2022 and is projected for completion by mid-August 2024.
The Academic Block spans 3,720 square metres across three floors, housing eight classrooms accommodating 30 students each, along with amenities such as a gymnasium, indoor canteen with outdoor seating, two mini video conference rooms seating 46 participants each, and a 150-seat conference hall. It also includes office spaces for 25 personnel, and designated areas for a library, computer room, and board meeting room. The Academic Block can accommodate around 480 participants on a daily basis.
The CSCM’s Auditorium, of a 300-seating capacity, covers a surface area of 1,120 square metres and includes a reception area and facilities such as two changing rooms. The campus provides 200 parking slots, complemented by green spaces, an entrance gate with a security post, and essential infrastructure such as a flagpole platform, and comprehensive drainage and sewerage systems.
In a statement, following the visit, Minister Ramdhany emphasised the Indian Government’s support in the construction of the new CSCM. Minister Jaishankar expressed appreciation with regards to the infrastructure of the Auditorium and Academic Block, which are set to accommodate approximately 90,000 Public Officers from Ministries and Parastatal bodies in a conducive learning environment equipped with all necessary facilities, underlined Dr Ramdhany.
Furthermore, Minister Ramdhany highlighted Minister Jaishankar’s resolve in strengthening bilateral ties between India and Mauritius, including exploring avenues of cooperation that promote exchange programmes to train Public Officers locally and abroad. He also mentioned the appointment of a dedicated resource person to provide guidance on aligning the College’s operations with established norms.
