A resident of Trois Boutiques, Plaine Magnien, was shocked to discover her 5-year-old son hanging from a nylon rope in her kitchen on Thursday morning, April 18. This after her 8-year-old eldest son called her to say, “Vinn guette kouma S… pe zwe ek la corde”. With the help of a neighbor, she removed the rope from her child’s neck before rushing him to Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose Belle. The child was placed in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward. His condition is considered serious.
After being alerted to the case by the Rose Belle hospital Police Post, a policewoman from the Plaine Magnien police station went to Carreau Esnoof, where the little boy lives. The boy, who was having breakfast with his brother and sister in the kitchen, climbed onto a sofa before putting his head through a nylon rope and accidentally hanging himself.
After being taken to hospital by a doctor in the emergency department, he was referred to the pediatric department of ENT Hospital in Vacoas. He was placed in an intensive care unit ward. His condition is considered serious.
In a statement made by the mother, she explained that at around 9:05 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, she was in the bathroom when her three children were playing on a sofa in the kitchen. At one point, her eldest son called to her in a panicked voice, “Vinn guette kouma S… pe zwe ek la corde”. She ran to her cousin, where she saw her son hanging from a nylon rope attached to the wall. With the help of a neighbor, she removed the loop of rope around her son’s neck before taking him to Rose Belle Hospital. The rope was attached to the wall and used to dry cloths.
A police investigation has been launched to shed light on the circumstances of this accident.
