The MTCSL is still waiting for an answer from the Horse Racing Division (HRD) concerning the number of races meetings that he will be able to organize in 2023. The PTP got 21 meetings in 2022 and the MTCSL 20. The HRD has to come with the 2022 calendar as it is already late if competitions were to resume on March 18.
Training has resumed but the trainers don’t even know the fixtures for the first race meeting and they are unable to target any races for their horses who are training without knowing if they will race on March 18 or later.
As we said earlier there might be more race meetings this year with 36 to be run at the Champ-de-mars with 18 for the PTP and 18 for the MTCSL and 20 which would be organised at the new racecourse, the JML Equestrian Center, owned by ex-bookmaker, founder of SMS Pariaz, main shareholder of the PTP and of the horse importer company Global Equestrian Ltd and horse owner, Jean-Michel Lee Shim, at Petit Gamin in Balaclava.
The MTCSL has not yet got the lease from the Côte d’Or International Racecourse and Entertainment Complex (COIREC) to use the Champ-de-mars track. The MTCSL is waiting for the lease to proceed for the renewal of its Horse Racing Organizer’s license.
The president of the MTC, Me Gavin Glover met with the Prime minister, Pravind Jugnauth, in January. There might be another meeting between them in the coming days.
