The Samraj Mahadia-trained horse is the big favorite to win the second round of the championship and be crowned champion of 3-year-old horses on Saturday. He seems to be a class above. But he will have to beat Tomorrow’s Vision and Armed Force.
Alpine Challenge is undefeated in two outings in Mauritius. He finished strongly to win over 990m to snatch his first win. Alpine Challenge won easily in the first round of the 3-year-old championship over 1400m. He raced in second position and his jockey Michel Platini De Oliveira only asked him for an effort over 200m in the final straight. He did it without being whipped and De Oliveira even allowed himself the luxury of putting the reins 50m from the line.
Alpine Challenge is big favorite to win the last round of the 3-year-old championship and be crowned champion. He has raced in two Listed Races in South Africa and he will run over 1600m for the first time in his career. He seems to be able handle the trip after his easy win last time over 1400m.
Tomorrow’s Vision will be his main danger. He placed on his first two outings in Mauritius, and he had a tough run on the outside on meeting 14. Tomorrow’s Vision is to be feared over the 1600m, as he won from start to finish on this distance on his last outing in South Africa. He is in excellent physical condition, and he could find himself leading the race without doing much effort.
Armed Force won on his first two outings. He came to the finish to beat Divergent on meeting 7, and he made it a pillar to post on meeting 12. Armed Force was disappointing in its last race when it took fourth place at 2.95L from Secret Circle. He can race upfront or follow close to the leader. He might be right there.
