Centennial College, a renowned Canadian university founded in 1966, has opened an admissions office in Mauritius. Based at the UNICITI International Education Hub in Pierrefonds, the office will be regional in scope, with staff dedicated to tracking and managing student applications from across Africa. The institution is seeing an increase in enrolments from African students, proof of its appeal and development potential on the continent. The official opening of the office took place on Thursday November 9, in the presence of Dr Craig Stephenson, the institution’s President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Dr Glen Lowry, Associate Vice President for Applied Research, HyFlex Learning and Academic Partnerships.
“Mauritius is a bridge between Africa and India, two of our students’ main regions of origin. Canada has gained in popularity and is now among the preferred destinations for higher education. We offer quality programs at affordable prices, and our degrees are recognized worldwide. What’s more, students benefit from an excellent quality of life, thanks not only to our level of development but also to the fact that we welcome people from many different cultures and lifestyles. We must also highlight the many professional opportunities that enable students to gain work experience in Canada, thanks to the Post-Graduation Work Program (PGWP),” says Dr. Craig Stephenson, President and CEO of Centennial College.
The institution’s presence in Mauritius through this admissions office will bring Centennial College closer to its regional and continental partners, opening up prospects for collaboration on a transnational level. “We have a team specialized in international admissions. They are ready to help and support students throughout the process. Our team is fully trained to help students choose the right program for them. Our ambition is to get closer to our future students so that we can advise them in their own language and better understand their needs and expectations,” explains Dr. Glen Lowry.
In its 55-year history, Centennial College has grown from a local community institution to a global educational institution with a presence in China, India, South Korea and Brazil. Centennial College’s focus on preparing graduates for the workforce and developing leadership skills has earned it the top ranking for graduate satisfaction in the Greater Toronto Area.
