The Pakistan Week marking the celebrations of the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan and the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Mauritius has started last Thursday. Speaking at a reception organised at the J&J Auditorium in Phoenix for this occasion, the High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Mauritius, Mr Muhammad Arshad Jan Pathan, hailed the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Mauritius and extended his gratitude to the Government of Mauritius for donating Rs 5 million for the floods affecting Pakistan.
The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, the Acting President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Marie Cyril Eddy Boissézon, the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, Members of the Diplomatic Corps and other personalities were present at the event. Following the reception, a musical concert was held.
In his remarks, the High Commissioner dwelt on further deepening the cordial relations between both countries during his tenure in Mauritius. He also spoke of the Engage Africa Policy developed by the Pakistani Government to have a more engaging relationship with all African countries while highlighting that Mauritius will be used as the gateway and focal point to explore more activities in Africa.
Regarding the floods affecting the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, he reaffirmed his full support and pointed out that all events for the Pakistan Week have been made free of cost. He also made a request to the Mauritian Government to enable people to open accounts to facilitate donation and raise funds to support Pakistan.
