The Mauritius Meteorological Station has issued a heavy swell advisory for Mauritius, Rodrigues, Agalega and St Brandon this Monday June 27, 2022. This warning will be in force from Tuesday 28 June 2022 at 04:00 until Friday 01 July 2022 at 10:00.
It is dangerous to venture into the lagoons and the open sea because swells of 4 to 5 meters are expected in the open sea. During high tides, waves may break in low-lying coastal areas, especially in the south and southwest. Fishermen, boaters and the general public are strongly advised not to go out to sea and not to venture onto these beaches during high tides. All water activities such as kite surfing and water skiing, among others, are strictly discouraged.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre is asking the public to follow the following guidelines:
- Fishermen are strongly advised not to engage in fishing activities in the open sea and lagoons. Secure your fishing boats;
- Be very vigilant when you go out on the coastal roads;
- Residents in coastal areas are advised to remain vigilant;
- It is not recommended to practice any activity on the beach, in the lagoons and in the open sea;
- Boaters are strongly advised not to venture into the open sea and lagoons and to avoid visits and recreational activities on the islets as well as diving, kitesurfing, surfing and canoeing among others;
- Be aware of the authorities concerned through the media; and

In case of need, the public is also advised to contact the authorities on the following emergency lines: the Police on 148, 999 and the Fire Department on 115.
