Hearings Over In Constituency Clerk Case… Closing Arguments On 8 April

The forgery trial against Yogida Sawmynaden came to a close before Magistrate Anusha Rawoah, of the Intermediary Court, on Friday.  The last defence witness was called. Vidya Sookaram, Principal Court Officer of the Supreme Court, filed several documents relating to the case.

In this Constituency Clerk case of Simla Kistnen, wife of the late Soopramanien Kistnen, around 11 people have testified in the case. Closing arguments are scheduled for 08 April.

As a reminder, former Commerce Minister Yogida Sawmynaden is being prosecuted on two counts, namely “Forgery of Private Writing” and “Making Use of Forged Private Writing”. As far as Simla Kistnen is concerned, she has always categorically denied receiving a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 from Yogida Sawmynaden as ‘Constituency Clerk’/

She claims to have been informed of her registration as a ‘constituency clerk’ in 2020 during the lock-up when she was planning to apply to the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) for the Wage Assistance Scheme.
