A 24-year-old woman ended up in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Dr. Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq late Thursday afternoon, May 5, following a motor vehicle accident. She was traveling as a passenger on a motorcycle on the Royal Road from Belle Vue Allandi to Constance. At some point the driver lost control of his wheeled vehicle before leaving the road. The driver of the motorcycle, a 22 year old mason, living in Pointe des Lascar, tested positive for alcohol.
It was around 3:40 pm that this accident occurred. The police station of Flacq was alerted and dispatched a team of police officers to the scene. A black Haojue motorcycle was found in a cane path. The driver and his female passenger, who lives in Alma, were transported to the hospital in an Emergency Medical Service ambulance.
The driver was given a breathalyzer test. He tested positive. He had forty micrograms of alcohol in his breath. After receiving treatment the passenger was admitted to the intensive care unit. The driver of the motorcycle was released from the hospital.
