She will soon be back home. Maya Hanoomanjee has resigned as High Commissioner of Mauritius to India. She sent her letter of resignation to the Prime Minister’s Office at the end of last week. She is currently in India packing her bags. The reason given for her resignation is personal. It is linked to the death of her son-in-law, the husband of her daughter Naila, in early August. Maya Hanoomanjee had taken up her post as Mauritius’ High Commissioner to India in May 2020. Before assuming this responsibility, she had been Speaker of the National Assembly from 22 December 2014 to 21 November 2019. And before presiding over the Assembly, she had been Minister of Health from 11 May 2010 to 25 July 2011. She retired as civil servant in 2005 and joined active politics.
