A one-day workshop on ‘Pay and Grading Structure and Conditions of Service’ opened, this morning, at the Federation of Civil Service and Other Unions (FCSOU) Trade Union House in Coromandel. The workshop, an initiative of the Government Office Auxiliary Union (GOAU), was organised in the context of the forthcoming PRB Report.
The Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany; the President of FCSOU, Dr Vinesh Sewsurn; and the President of GOAU, Mr Mahendrasingh Barosa; were also present. The workshop brought together some 70 Office Auxiliaries from all Ministries.
Themes discussed during the workshop comprised: conditions of service, pay and grading structure, and PRB Memorandum 2026.
In his address, Minister Ramdhany commended the Office Auxiliary cadre for the outstanding job that they perform. He also spoke about the need to transform the civil service into a modern, efficient and technology-savvy institution. In that context, he highlighted the need to have an IT Corner and Wifi spots in each Ministry while adding that he will have discussions with the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation on the matter.
As regards the health and safety of public officers, Dr Ramdhany said that Emergency Exits are mandatory in all Ministries. He also stated that his Ministry is working on a new Heavy Rainfall Protocol which will ensure that public officers are safe during bad weather. He announced that in a bid to encourage public officers to practice a regular physical activity, gyms will be provided in all Ministries. Furthermore, Mess Rooms equipped with all facilities will be provided, he said.
Minister Ramdhany also elaborated about the following: training of public officers, the construction of a new Civil Service College, the decentralisation of events such as the ‘Kermesse’ so that a maximum of public officers can attend, and the introduction of hourly leave.
For his part, the President of FCSOU, Dr Vinesh Sewsurn, said that the inputs of the Office Auxiliary cadre during the workshop are very important and will be useful to build a comprehensive document in view of the forthcoming PRB Report.
As for the President of GOAU, Mr Mahendrasingh Barosa, he dwelt on the need for a change of mindset and to transform the civil service into a modern, efficient and reformed one.
