The warning is clear. Under the Non-Citizens (Employment Restriction) Act, no non-citizen may work in Mauritius for remuneration or profit without holding a valid work permit. Offenders are liable to a fine of between Rs 100,000 and Rs 500,000 and up to 5 years’ imprisonment. However, many cases involving citizens of Ghana have been reported. So the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning to its compatriots. In a letter, it reminded Ghanaians that it is an offence to take up employment in Mauritius if they hold a tourist visa.
In the Ganeen advisory, the government of Mauritius , in its employment restriction notice warned that foreigners who are caught in the country working without a valid work permit are liable to a prison terms of 3 years. It is also worthy to note that any person who has in his :her establishment a non-citizen without a valid work permit and any non-citizen who engages in occupational without work permit is in contravention of the non-citizens( Employment restriction Act), such person are liable to a fine and of five years
