Gas Cylinder Explodes On The Roof Of Emmanuel Anquetil’s Building

Panic at the building of Emmanuel Anquetil in Port-Louis in the late afternoon of Thursday, November 18 following an explosion. A fire started and spread quickly, causing the explosion of one of the sixteen gas cylinders that were found on the roof of this ten-story building. This building had been undergoing waterproofing work for a month by the Modern Jurassic Waterproofing Company.  This explosion was of unprecedented violence that a gas cylinder was projected on the Bahemia Building.

It was shortly after 3:30 p.m. that the fire alarm was given to Emmanuel Anquetil’s building. Smoke was emanating from the roof of the ten-story building. Firemen from the capital, whose fire station is located less than fifty meters away, arrived at the scene of the fire almost immediately. While officials working there were still evacuating the building, an explosion was felt. A woman had to say “finn ena kouma dir enn sekouss”.

Police officers from the Pope Henessy police station, which is right next door, were dispatched to the scene to help evacuate the employees from that building. Police officers assigned to various police units were also called in to assist.

According to an initial investigation, this building is currently undergoing waterproofing work. Employees of Modern Jurassic Waterproofing Entreprise were at work until 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 18. Forensic technicians were dispatched to the scene to collect evidence and take samples that may help determine the origin of the fire. What was the trigger for this fire? This is the mystery to be solved by the elements of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police of the South Division, which was seized of this investigation.
