The second round will take place on April 24. Emmanuel Macron is leading the first round of the 2022 presidential election, with 28.1% of the vote, according to initial estimates published by Ipsos-Sopra Steria for France Télévisions, Radio France, France 24-RFI-MCD, Public Sénat-LCP and Le Parisien-Aujourd’hui en France, on Sunday, April 10, at 8pm.
The incumbent is followed by the far-right candidate of the National Rally, Marine Le Pen, who obtained 23.3% of the vote, and by the leader of La France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who received 20.1%.
The collapse of the traditional parties
Valérie Pécresse (LR) would not be certain to reach 5%, Yannick Jadot, the environmentalist candidate, either. Anne Hidalgo (PS) has the worst score in the history of her party, with about 2% of the votes. The projections will be refined around the evening.
An increasing abstention
The last polling stations closed at 8 pm French time. The abstention would reach 26%, its highest level since the 2002 presidential election.
