Franklin Returned To Detention Until 28 February

Must Read

Jean Hubert Célerine appeared before the Bambous District court this Tuesday. Magistrate Vidya Mungroo-Jugurnauth decided to extend his detention until 28 February. Frenklin was due to appear in court yesterday where the hearing on his application for release was due to start. It should be remembered that it is a normal appearance that is scheduled for 28 February. However, Magistrate Mungroo-Jugurnath has fixed March 9 for the hearing of Franklin’s bail application. He is facing a provisional charge of money laundering.

Jean Désiré Décidé, better known as Nono, has been returned to detention until February 27. He appeared before the Mahébourg court yesterday morning. The representative of the Anti-Corruption Commission objected to his release on parole. Nono was returned to the police cell. Nono is supposed to be close to Jean Hubert Célérine. Franklin was summoned for a second interrogation on February 14 at the Icac.

The Black River resident was subsequently arrested and provisionally charged with money laundering in the Mahébourg court on February 15. He has since been placed in detention.

The Icac suspects Nono of being linked to Franklin’s alleged activities.

At the hearing on Tuesday, his lawyer, Sanjeev Kumar Moloye, presented a motion for his release on parole. The motion will be heard on Monday, February 27.
