Must Read

Keemaunchaune Neemaye, known as Karl, a 67-year-old fisherman, lost his life on Thursday, December 22, while out at sea. This resident of Route Royale, Tamarin had left his house to go and remove his traps in the open sea. But the sixty-year-old never returned. With his prolonged absence, his son went looking for him and found him stuck in the reef in a depth of 5 to 7 meters in the water. With the help of his friends, his father’s body was pulled from the water. At first he thought the victim had drowned, but an autopsy revealed that the victim died as a result of shock from chest injuries. Investigators believe that the fisherman was hit by a boat.

Keemaunchaune Neemaye, with his fishing equipment, had left his house at around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, to go and remove his traps from the open sea. He had not returned by 2:30 p.m., contrary to his usual routine. With a group of friends, his son, Kamlesh Neenmaye, 40 years old, who is also a fisherman, had to go out to sea around 4:45 pm in order to find him.

While he was diving, he had to find his father’s body stuck in the reef. His father, said the forty-year-old, was on good terms with everyone in the village. Immediately alerted to this news, a team of police officers from the Black River police station went to the Tamarin landing where the body of Keemaunchaune Neemaye was transported.  He had a wound on his left forearm on his diving suit.

The body of this 60 year old man was taken to the morgue of the Victoria Hospital in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy was performed at around 8 pm on Thursday, December 22 by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, and attributed the death to shock due to chest injuries. A malicious act is suspected.

Investigators at the Black River Police Station believe that the victim was hit by a boat while diving to remove his traps. An investigation has been initiated to identify the boat.
