President of the Republic of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, our Chief Guest for National Day Celebrations 2024, arrived in Mauritius Yesterday. She was welcomed by the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and his spouse, Mrs Kobita Jugnauth. Smt Droupadi Murmu will be on a State Visit to Mauritius from 11 to 13 March 2024.
Several eminent personalities as well as the High Commissioner of the Republic of India to Mauritius, Mrs. K. Nandini Singla, also graced the arrival ceremony that was held at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation, She paid a courtesy call, yesterday afternoon, on the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, at the State House, in Réduit. The meeting focussed on further consolidating the longstanding Mauritius-India ties, a souvenir photo was taken and the Indian President presented the RuPay Card to President Roopun.
It is recalled that the Ayurvedic Garden, jointly developed by the Indian Ministry of Ayush and the Ayurveda Chair at the University of Mauritius, was inaugurated, last year, by President Roopun in the presence of the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, and High Commissioner Singla. The Ayurvedic Garden features some 60 medicinal plant varieties that have, since more than 3000 years, been used in palliating several diseases.
Latern the President of the Republic of India, Mrs Droupadi Murmu, was received, by the Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Mahen Kumar Seeruttun at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (SSR) Botanic Garden in Pamplemousses.
Mrs Murmu laid wreaths at the Samadhi of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and Sir Anerood Jugnauth. The Indian President also participated in a tree planting ceremony, reflecting the shared values of respect and remembrance.
