The hardware store Petit Prix, located in Circonstance, Saint-Pierre was the prey of flames shortly after midnight on Sunday, February 19. A violent fire that broke out in this hardware store caused considerable damage. Firefighters from Quatre-Bornes were called to the scene and were able to control the fire after five hours. However, the damage caused is estimated at Rs 10 million. This building was not insured.
It was around one o’clock in the morning on Sunday, February 19 that a team of police officers from the Saint-Pierre police station went to Circonstance after they were alerted of this fire in a hardware store. Black smoke was emanating from this hardware store. The owner, a 47-year-old man living in L’Avenir, Saint-Pierre, was already on the scene.
The firemen were able to extinguish the fire at 4:30 am on Sunday 19 February. Several items including paint buckets, sheet metal, tools, electrical appliances, plumber’s fittings, boards, plywood, cement bags, iron bars, glass panels, metal tubing, electrical accessories, wires, and aluminum accessories were damaged.
Forensic technicians examined the scene of the fire during the day on Sunday, February 19 in an effort to find clues to help investigators determine the exact circumstances of the fire.
