The road has made yet another victim. 25-year-old, Ismet Kheedeer has been fighting for his survival following an accident on Tuesday 27 April. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday 9 June.
On 27 April, the vehicle driven by Ismet collided with a van on the main road in Montagne Blanche. The police said that he might have lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a bend. Nonetheless, the impact of the collision was such that the van driver was trapped in the vehicle until emergency services arrived on the scene.
After which, Ismet and the other passenger, his wife was both rushed to the Dr. Bruno Cheong Hospital with injuries. However, the latter died on Wednesday 9 June in intensive care.
The breathalyzer tests on both drivers were negative. An autopsy will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.
The number of fatal accidents on our roads is alarming. Alain Jeannot of the Prévention Routière Avant Tout association is of the opinion that the growth of our vehicle fleet is not necessarily the main cause of so many accidents. He cites Singapore as an example. Alain Jeannot explains the vulnerability of two-wheelers. Some people were thinking that during this period of Pandemic because there are less cars on the road the number of accidents will diminish. But this does not seem to be the case, unfortunately.
