The Coca-Cola Foundation presented a check of 169, 597 USD to We-Recycle Mauritius on March 29th. The NGO works for sustainable development with the collection of recyclable waste. The ceremony took place at the Mauritius Glass Gallery – Phoenix. This fund will carry out several projects.
This funding will allow We Recycle to extend its collections in the districts of Black River, Savanne and parts of Plaines Wilhems.
For Antoine King, president of We-Recycle Mauritius, waste recycling must first go through education: “One of the main pillars of We-Recycle Mauritius’ activities is education. This donation from The Coca-Cola Foundation will enable us to conduct more educational activities in schools, colleges, community organizations and businesses. An extensive awareness campaign is also planned.”
For her part Saadia Madsbjerg – the president of The Coca-Cola Foundation, shared the foundation’s commitment to protecting the environment, “So we must do all we can, collectively, to ensure that our ecosystems are not only protected and preserved, but thrive. We can’t do it alone, and we recognize that. Therefore, with this program, we want to support the education of as many people as possible, so that we can all work together to keep Mauritius as beautiful as ever.”
In addition, We-Recycle Mauritius also plans to partner with as many as 30 businesses in the Ebony Cybercity for collections and awareness campaigns. During this period, approximately 60 tons of plastic waste will be collected and recycled.
As a reminder, the ceremony took place in the presence of Kavydass Ramano – Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change.
