Enter A New Dimension With My.T’s 1 Gbps Home Internet & TV Offer

Must Read

Mauritius is entering the gigabit era, thanks to Mauritius Telecom. Subscribers of my.t can now surf at speeds of up to 1 Gbps. This offer, unparalleled in the Mauritian market, was launched on 9 September by the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, in the presence of the Minister of ICT, Deepak Balgobin and Sherry Singh, CEO of Mauritius Telecom, at an event at the SVICC in Pailles. With this offer, a new milestone is reached in terms of internet connectivity speed for the home as it allows Mauritius to enter the league of countries offering connection speeds of 1 Gbps.

Constantly evolving internet usage

Since its advent, the Internet has changed the game. Its many uses and services (social networks, email, streaming, gaming, downloading, etc.) are now part of our daily lives. However, the uses and behaviours of the Mauritian Internet consumer are constantly evolving.

Today, every member of the family is connected to at least one device at home (TV, smartphone, tablet, connected household devices). Since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, the demand for very high speed internet access has only increased as uses multiply and diversify: telecommuting, online schooling, online shopping. In addition, the use of international streaming platforms increases the demand for more speed and capacity.

For the CEO of Mauritius Telecom, Sherry Singh, it is essential for Mauritius Telecom to adapt its offers: “Needs have changed. Behaviours have changed. Expectations have changed. Each family, each person is different, with different needs and it is our job to adapt. In her speech, Sherry Singh emphasised MT’s objectives: “Our aim is to take our country into a new league… the premier league of countries with the best and fastest internet. We are launching a new league of connectivity today.

As a reminder, Mauritius has been 100% fibre optic eligible since the end of 2017 following the boost given to the project by Sherry Singh, CEO of MT. The deployment of fibre optics was done in record time. Today, 315,000 homes are already connected to the broadband network through fibre. In 2016, Mauritius became the first country in Africa to offer 100 Mbps speed to its residential subscribers. In 2019, MT introduced the my.t Smart Box, with features never before seen in Mauritius. Mauritius is the 8th most fibre-connected country in the world.
