Five students, who excelled brilliantly at the Cambridge School Certificate, and six, at the Higher School Certificate, for Academic Year 2020-2021, were each awarded, by the staff of the National Empowerment Foundation (NEF), a souvenir shield and an ecological goodie bag packed with a flask, a mug, a large copybook and a multipurpose pen.
These youngsters are from families who are either beneficiaries of NEF services or feature on the Social Register Mauritius.
The ceremony was held this afternoon at the headquarters of the NEF in Port-Louis, in the presence of the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jean-François Chaumière.
The latter congratulated the students for their achievement and urged them to think about their future, especially at a time of uncertainty brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr Chaumière, moreover, commended the NEF staff for the initiative which, he deemed, would encourage other children of beneficiary families of NEF to perform outstandingly in their school exams.
According to the CEO, while NEF aided and motivated vulnerable families in terms of health, housing and education with a view to empowering them to move out of poverty, these beneficiaries should put in the required efforts. “Nothing is impossible when one works hard towards one’s goal,” he underlined.
The CEO also stated that education was one of the key enablers of success and progress in life. He highlighted that through education, people can get another outlook on problems, enabling them to power through their difficult situation.
