Must Read

A 50-year-old woman was injured in a traffic accident on Saturday evening, November 13, on the Mapou Highway near the Ferret Bridge. The BMW in which she was traveling was involved in a collision with a Nissan contract van. This car was driven by an officer assigned to the SMF. The 44-year-old officer, who lives in Riviere du Rempart, tested positive for alcohol.

It was around 11:30 pm on Saturday night that the Piton police station was informed of this accident where the BMW driven by the SMF officer collided with a contract van driven by a man, aged 54 and living in Mont Gout, Pamplemousses.

Both vehicles were damaged and the female passenger in the front seat, a resident of L’Amitié, was injured. She was taken to the Hôpital du Nord for treatment and was later admitted to the ward. Her condition is considered to be quite serious.

Both drivers were given a breathalyzer test, where the officer’s test was positive. He was placed in a drunk tank for the night. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of this accident.

It should be recalled that late in the afternoon of Tuesday, November 2, a young 26-year-old police officer, also assigned to the SMF, was involved in a traffic accident at Chemin Vingt Pieds, Grand-Baie. His Toyota was involved in an accident with a Mitsubishi car.  Both drivers were given a breathalyzer test and the officer tested positive. He had 73 micrograms of alcohol in his breath.
