Drugs: 22 Year Old Arrested For Importing Rs 8 Million Of Heroin

A controlled delivery operation set up by police officers of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the Central Division led to the arrest of Patrice Jean Vial, a 22-year-old helper for drug importation. The resident of Castel, Phoenix, had come to pick up a package at the premises of an express courier company in Port-Louis. The package contained, among other things, a plastic bag with 550 grams of heroin inside. The market value of this drug is Rs 8 250 000.

This parcel had arrived at the depot of this express courier company on Thursday September 30 from Johannesburg. The name and address of the recipient were fictitious. A contact was established on a cell phone number. It was at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, that Patrice Jean Vial came to take delivery of the package.  It was at this precise moment that he was picked up by the men of Adsu led by sub-inspector Soondrum and sergeant Coonlic, placed under the supervision of the police superintendent, Jacques Jean Pierre.

The suspect was brought before the Port-Louis court this Thursday morning, October 14. He is facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking, wanting to recover these 550 grams of heroin with the intention of making a distribution. Patrice Jean Vial was held in police custody after his court appearance.

Twenty-one doses of synthetic drugs

In addition, a raid by police officers of Alpha 6 of the Adsu of the Metropolitan Police in Ti-Rodrigues, Residence La Cure during the day of Wednesday, October 13, led to the seizure of twenty-one doses of synthetic drugs, several parcels of the same drug weighing sixty-five grams and one hundred and seventeen cannabis seeds. The value of these drugs is estimated at Rs 340 000.

It is at the home of Jean Damien Perrine, 19 years old that this seizure was made by the men of the inspector Lepois. They had information that this young man was involved in drug trafficking. As the suspect was absent at the time of the police search, this exercise took place in the presence of his relatives. Damien Perrine was subsequently taken prisoner at the Adsu headquarters in the Central Barracks at around 4:30 p.m. the same day. During the day of Thursday, October 14, he was brought before the Port-Louis court. He is facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking. He was then taken back into custody.

On the other hand, the men of Inspector Sevanandee of Adsu of the western division, with the help of the police helicopter, uprooted three hundred and four cannabis plants on the side of the Corps de Garde mountain around 12:30 pm on Wednesday, October 13. These plants measure between fifteen and one meter.  An investigation has been initiated to trace the cultivator of these plants.
