Must Read

“Missie sa bannrime la, ce bannrime psychotrope sa et mo ti gard sa avek mwa pou enn client”. This is what Dhivish Raj Sharma Soobhug, 30 years old, a doctor at the North Hospital, said when he was apprehended at his workplace in the early evening of Tuesday, September 14, on a provisional charge of dangerous drugs. This doctor living in Pointe aux Piments was found in possession of sixty tablets of Pregabalin of 150 mg and twenty-eight blank prescriptions.  He incriminated one of his doctor colleagues living in the north of the country to be involved in this traffic. After a night spent in a police cell at the police station of Pointe aux Piments, Dr. Dhivish Soobhug will be brought before the court of Pamplemousses this Wednesday, September 15.

It is on the basis of certain information concerning a traffic of psychotropic tablets in the northern hospital and after hours of surveillance that Sergeant Jaisen Arnasala and Constables Ramchand and Appasamy of the Field Intelligence Office (FIO) of the northern division landed in this establishment around 4 pm on Tuesday September 14. Dr. Dhivish Soobhung was accosted by these police officers on the premises of this hospital and informed of the suspicion against him. A body search was carried out on him in a discreet place and that is how these policemen were to find in the left pocket of his pants a transparent bag containing red and white tablets and twenty-eight blank prescriptions.

The suspect was taken to the FIO office in Piton for questioning. He confessed his guilt in the trafficking of psychotropic tablets Prebagalin to the men of Sergeant Arnasala. Dr. Dhivish Soobhug was to incriminate another doctor working at the northern hospital of being involved in this traffic. Regularly they issued false prescriptions with fictitious names. This doctor, he said, was receiving orders from his uncle who owns several pharmacies.

The FIO suspects that there is a network of false prescriptions for the distribution of psychotropic tablets. This team intends to make further arrests in the following hours. The investigation in this case is under the supervision of Superintendent of Police, Premanand Purmarssur
