Alteo and Terra have just handed over the title deeds to 21 ex-employees of the former Mon Loisir sugar factory.
These title deeds, which concern the land allocated according to the Blue Print, were handed over to them during an official ceremony held in the Alteo Club House in Union Flacq.
In order to respect the sanitary protocol in place, only a few people were invited to this event apart from the beneficiaries, including the Attorney General and Minister of Agribusiness and Food Security, l Maneesh Gobin, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Kalpana Koonjoo-Shah, the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Darsanand Balgobin André Bonieux, CEO of Alteo, and Nicolas Maigrot, Managing Director of Terras.
“It is a pleasure to be with you to present these titles to the former employees of Mon Loisir. Today we salute their contribution to this industry, which was once King Sugar and has had some difficult years since. But thanks to the work of all its stakeholders and the courageous decisions made by the government for the cane industry, better days are ahead. The industry still has a bright future and we know that we can count on a strong partnership between the government and the private sector,” said Attorney General and Minister of Agribusiness and Food Security Maneesh Gobin.
André Bonieux, for his part, congratulated the employees of the former Mon Loisir sugar company: “Your dedication and contribution to the industry for many years are an example. It is to workers like you that our industry owes its success. And the land you receive today is not only the fruit of your labor, but a sign of recognition and thanks from all of us. Take good care of it.”
Alteo’s CEO also commented on the recent budget announcement regarding the introduction of a Biomass Framework: “This measure, which is essential for the survival of our industry, was long overdue and I am delighted that the government has been sensitive to the demands of planters and millers. It is a step forward that will help to relieve all the actors of the sugarcane industry and, moreover, will eventually contribute to the energy independence of our country.”
This title handover is part of the Blue Print set up following the closure of the Mon Loisir mill in 2012. These parcels are provided with all necessary infrastructure, including roads, access to water and electricity, as well as playgrounds and green spaces.
