The debates around the motion for release on bail of the social activist, Bruneau Laurette, continued this Monday, January 16, 2023 before the court of Moka. The activist is in provisional detention since his arrest on November 4, 2022. The case has been adjourned until Friday 20 January. During today’s session, Bruneau Laurette’s lawyers focused on the search warrant of the police to search Bruneau Laurette’s home. For Shakeel Mohamed, who is the leading counsel of Bruneau Laurette, the warrant is “unlawful”. He started to question Superintendent Krishna Kumar Rajaram on the matter. However, the representative of the DPP, Roshan Varma Santokhee, raised an objection. He says the objective of Mr Mohamed with the SP Rajaram question is incorrect. Magistrate Jade Ngan will, this Friday, give her ruling on this point. On that same day, Magistrate Ngan is expected to give another ruling on preliminary objections raised by the prosecution regarding the defence motion to strike the charges.
