While vacationing with friends in Mauritius, a 38-year-old Czech tourist experienced the worst moment of her life in the early morning hours of Tuesday March 5 on the public beach of Flic en Flac. She was accosted by a stranger on the coastal road, who forced her onto the beach where she was sexually abused. Back at her apartment, she recounted her misadventure to her friend with whom she arrived in Mauritius on Wednesday February 28.
In the presence of a Czech interpreter, the victim gave her statement at the Flic en Flac police station. She gave a detailed account of her arrival in Mauritius, before evoking the trauma she suffered as a result of this sexual assault.
She says she arrived in Mauritius on February 28 in the company of her friend and her friend’s boyfriend. They were due to leave the country on Wednesday March 13. On the evening of Monday March 4 at around 11pm, they all went to the Saphir Pub where they consumed several alcoholic beverages. While there, she says she met an Australian national.
At 2 a.m. on Tuesday March 5, they all left the place. Her two friends returned to their apartments, while she and her new boyfriend went to the beach, where they had sex with his consent. She says she stayed on this beach for half an hour before leaving for their respective homes together.
Arriving at a certain unknown location, she separated from this man believing that she was close to the apartment where she lives, but she was mistaken. She then turned back towards the beach to be redirected. At 3 a.m., she was on Route Côtière, walking right along the sidewalk towards her apartment in the direction of the Manisha Hotel. She was smoking a cigarette. Arriving near a blue kiosk on the beach, she was approached by a stranger who grabbed her by the hand and pulled her towards the beach. The Czech tourist says she struggled and grabbed a piece of metal that was attached to this sheet-metal structure to resist him.
The 30-year-old explains that she offered him money to let her go, but the man signed her intention to have sex. She says she refused the offer. Shocked and exhausted, she could no longer defend herself. This man, who was standing behind her, removed her underwear before sexually abusing her. Although she still had that piece of metal in her hand, she was tetanized and could do nothing. She prayed for an end to this ordeal.
After the man had decided to satisfy himself, the Czech woman got dressed and fled down the main road to her apartment. Her friend, who was waiting for her, was worried about her prolonged absence. She then told her the whole story.
The Czech tourist has already been examined by a forensic pathologist. The case was referred to the Criminal Investigation Division of the Western Division. Cameras from Safe City were viewed with the aim of identifying the perpetrator of this sexual assault.
