Three days after the discovery of the lifeless body of Sabilla Bannoo, 55, née Taroo in a house in Dookhun, Four Corners, the police arrested her alleged murderer on Friday 29 October. Josh Shane Louisdovic Hosseny, a 22-year-old security guard living in Bassin Residence, Quatre-Bornes was apprehended in the Plaisance area, Rose-Hill. The young man, who is addicted to synthetic drugs, was working as a security guard at a site not far from the house where the crime was committed. He will be brought before the Bail and Remand Court (BRC) in Port Louis this Saturday morning, on a provisional charge of murder.
Sabilla Bannoo, who worked as a maid for a family in Dookhun Morcellement, Quatre-Bornes, was found dead inside the house at around 8pm on the evening of Tuesday 26 October. The gruesome discovery was made by her son and husband, who went to the place in the face of her prolonged absence. The victim was lying on her back with injuries to her neck, face and head. The owners of the house are currently in Canada. The autopsy performed on the morning of Wednesday 27 October at the Victoria Hospital Candos Mortuary by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to asphyxiation due to compression of the neck.
On the morning of that fateful Tuesday, Sabilla Bannoo had gone to another family’s house to do some housework. She then went to the home of her absent employer, for whom she had worked for about ten years.
The whole police machine was set in motion in the western division after this fatal attack. The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in Four Corners, under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Shyam Bansoodep, was working with elements of the Field Intelligence Office to track down the perpetrator. Initially, investigators were already focusing on a burglary gone wrong. Electrical wires had been ripped out of at least three rooms in the house.
Since Thursday, investigators were on the trail of Josh Shane Ludovic Hosseny as a prime suspect in the case. In addition to evidence collected at the scene by forensic technicians, SP Bansoodep’s men had information that this young drug addict could be the author of this fatal attack. His identity was thus communicated to all the police units of this division. At around 3pm on Friday 29 October, a team from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit arrested Josh Shane Louisdovic Hosseny in the area of Plaisance, Rose-Hill. He was handed over to the CID for questioning. After a night in detention, he will be presented before the BRC this Saturday 30 October. On Monday morning he will be back in court in Rose Hill on a provisional charge of murder.
The suspect has confessed to the crime. He says he assaulted the 50-year-old woman after she surprised him during the robbery.
