The Ministry of Public Service has just issued a circular with an ‘updated protocol’ for civil servants to combat Covid-19. It specifically addresses Covid-19 measures to be taken at home. It states that the most common symptoms are fever, body aches, dry cough, fatigue, chills, headache, sore throat, loss of appetite and loss of smell.
In some people, COVID-19 causes more severe symptoms such as high fever, severe cough and shortness of breath, which often indicates pneumonia. In addition, people with COVID-19 may also have neurological, gastrointestinal symptoms. Before returning to work, an unwell civil servant should inform his/her line manager of his/her condition.
When an official is in home isolation, contact with others should be avoided to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They should avoid sharing household items such as dishes, glasses, cups, utensils, towels or bedding with others in the house.
A civil servant, suspected of being infected with Covid-19, should call 8924 for appropriate advice and antigen testing. It is also advisable to clean and disinfect the workspace of the person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
