The Health Minister held a press conference on Saturday. Kailesh Jagutpal mainly spoke about the resurgence of Covid-19 cases. He was keen to reassure the public. “No health restrictions will be applied,” Kailesh Jagutpal assured. He said there is no need to panic. Let us recall that the XBB.1.16 variant has appeared on the Mauritian territory. For the Minister of Health, there is “no need to worry” because the variant in question is certainly “more contagious” but it “is less severe”. He confirmed that PCR tests have revealed 104 active cases in one week in the country and that several non-vaccinated patients are admitted to ENT hospitals. He also said that vaccines are resistant to new variants.
