Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed on 29-year-old Shezad Mira, but to no avail. The Upper Vale resident did not survive his injuries. The man was driving a moped on the evening of Wednesday, September 15, when he was involved in an accident on the Royal Road in Upper Vale with a van. His wife Fahanaz Mira, 27 years old, who was travelling on the two-wheeled vehicle as a rear seat passenger, was seriously injured.
It was around 8:10 pm on Wednesday evening, September 15, that a team of police officers from the Plaine des Papayes police station went to the Royal Road in Upper Vale following a road accident involving a contract van and a moped. Fahanaz Mira, who was injured was evacuated to the North Hospital by ambulance. She was admitted to the ward after receiving treatment.
As for her husband, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. This was after personnel on board an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service attempted to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him. The 40-year-old driver of the van from Mamzel Jeanne, Goodlands was given a breathalyzer test. The test was negative. He was taken into custody.
This accident occurred on a curve in the road. The driver of the said van was driving behind another vehicle on the Royal Road in Upper Vale. At some point he turned on his blinker to make a right turn when the collision occurred. The moped was travelling in the opposite direction on that road.
The body of Shezad Mira was taken to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port Louis. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis for an autopsy.
The driver of the van was brought before the court of Pamplemousses on a provisional charge of manslaughter.
