The cost of living has risen again, as evidenced by the latest report from Statistics Mauritius. The consumer price index rose from by 0.2 point or 0.2% from 113.1 in November 2021 to 113.3 in December 2021. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.2 point or 0.2% from 113.1 in November 2021 to 113.3 in December 2021. The main contributors to the change in the index between November 2021 and December 2021 were:

On a Year-on-year (Y-o-y) inflation worked out to 6.8% in December 2021, compared to 2.7% in December 2020. Headline inflation for the 12-months ending December 2021 worked out to 4.0%, compared to 2.5% for the 12-months ending December 2020.
Please note that the year-on-year inflation rate is calculated as the percentage change in the CPI for a given month with respect to the CPI for the corresponding month of the previous year.
