The Electoral Commission began its consultations on the Same Day Counting of ballots at the close of polling centers yesterday, with meetings with the Linion Moris on Tuesday and Linion Moris yesterday.
Today, it was the turn of representatives of Linion Moris for discussions aimed at implementing the vote counting procedure on the day of the legislative elections. Nando Bodha, Dev Sunassy and other leaders were present. Dev Sunnassy explained that Linion Moris is in favour of counting the votes on the same day as the vote. He added that the Electoral Commissioner is also in favour of that measure. However, it is up to the Government to decide. During their statements with the press, the leaders of Linion Moris explained the various advantages of starting the counting just after the poling exercise. The insisted that they made various other proposals with a view to have really free and fair elections.
Reform Party leader Roshi Bhadain met the electoral commissioner on Tuesday. At the end of the meeting, Roshi Badhain explained that discussions had focused on the modalities and parameters within which Same Day Counting could be carried out for the next legislative elections. He said he welcomed the proposal, as the risks are reduced with Ballot Boxes not leaving the Polling Stations. Roshi Bhadain also pointed out that the roles of the two Counting Agents in the classrooms had been discussed with the Electoral Commissioner and his team, as had the opening and closing times of the Polling Stations.
