Navin Ramgoolam is finally flying to the India after five days of hassle and anger. The Air Ambulance Challenger chartered by India left New Delhi this morning and will land in Mauritius this afternoon at 2 pm. Departure is announced for 3 pm. He, finally, could leave the Isolation Ward of Welkin Hospital by mid-day
An equipped Air Ambulance was essential
A sigh of relief but also the beginning of a fear and expectation of recovery. Dr Ramgoolam wanted to continue his treatment at this institute specialised in acute lung disorders and especially for those in his age group affected by the Covid 19 virus. His flight on Monday was impossible on a normal commercial flight, as the oxygen demand could not be met. He needed an Air Ambulance equipped for this transfer. It should be noted that in the air, for a person already in fragile health conditions, the drop in atmospheric pressure can lead to a drop in blood pressure, which can worsen the case of Dr Ramgoolam, who is already suffering from acute lung problems.
Accompaniment by 4 doctors
Everything is ready, the Air Ambulance Challenger will leave Mauritius at 3pm for Maldives for a refuelling and then to New Delhi. He will be accompanied by a good team consisting of his wife Veena Ramgoolam, at least two of his attending physicians including Dr Chandradas Subir, Consultant in Anaesthesiology, in addition to the two other medical personnel on board.
Costs incurred by the PTR
This transfer has its costs, which will be financed by the Labour Party and the PMO is acting as guarantor for this contract with the Air Ambulance Challenger. He will reach the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi in an ambulance already arranged for him as stated by Maya Hanoomanjee, Mauritius High Commissioner to India and her namesake in Mauritius Nandini Singla.
Le Matinal wishes Dr Navin Ramgoolam a safe flight and a good recovery.
