The Public officers’ Welfare Council (POWC) will hold its 29th edition of the Civil Service Kermesse this Sunday 17 December 2023 at the Gymkhana Grounds in Vacoas. The kermesse will be officially opened at 09 30 hrs, by the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.
In that context, the Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany, held a press conference, at the Gymkhana Grounds in Vacoas, in the presence of the President of the POWC, Mr Jaylall Mulloo, representatives from different Ministries, and other personalities.
The Civil Service Kermessse is an annual event where staff welfare associations from Ministries and Departments come together to raise funds for activities that benefit their members. It is also a chance for Public Officers, their families, and the general public to connect and have a good time in a relaxed and friendly setting.
During the press conference, Minister Ramdhany stressed the importance of the event in honoring the hard work of Public Officers throughout the year. Over 125 000 attendees are expected at this event which will offer a variety of activities and will be officially opened at 09 30 hrs, by the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth he stated.
The Minister also spoke about the POWC’s generous distribution of more than 1 000 toys to children on that day, symbolising a gesture of goodwill at the outset. Both Minister Ramdhany and Mr Mulloo announced that during the Kermesse, Maya AI, a digital robot, will be available for interaction.
Moreover, Dr Ramdhany recalled the recent launching of the Electronic Document Management System to establish a paperless Government, and also announced the availability of a two-hour casual leave for Public Officers.
The Kermesse will foster discussions on innovative measures benefitting Public Officers, promising an enriching experience for those in the public service sector, he added. Ensuring the well-being of attendees, Minister Ramdhany emphasised the need for fresh and hygienic food, prioritising the safety and good health of all participants during the event.
The Public Service Minister also spoke of the provision of adequate parking facilities namely at the Seewa Bappoo State Secondary School, among others, assisted by the Mauritius Police Force for efficient traffic guidance during the Civil Service Kermesse. The Minister assured a secure environment on that day, with the collaboration of the Special Mobile Force, Mauritius Fire Rescue, First Aiders and other organisations so as to ensure comprehensive safety measures.
