The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, hosted, yesterday, a get-together for needy children and children with disabilities at the State House in Réduit, in the presence of the Vice President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Marie Cyril Eddy Boissezon; the Chairperson of the Committee for the Promotion of National Unity (CPNU), Mrs Sheila Desha, and other personalities.
In his address, Mr Roopun highlighted that this celebration comprises the participation of children from the Republic of Mauritius, including those from Agalega and Rodrigues, emphasising the need to include each and every one to live in harmony and unity.
He further indicated that he, as President, envisages making the State House not only a place to be remembered as a symbol of work but also that of merriment for the population. In this context, regular activities and open days are organised with the children of the CPNU and other associations, he said.
The Government, Mr Roopun underlined, is doing its best to create conditions necessary for children to thrive in their environment, such as in the family, but this requires efforts from the population who must share a sense of unity.
The President further dwelt on the activities that were organised for this get-together, namely: lunch; leisure activities such as songs and dance; an interactive magic show; photo souvenirs; and distribution of gifts to the children.
