The Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs, Ambassador Xu Jinghu, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, this afternoon, at the New Treasury Building, in Port-Louis.
Ambassador Xu Jinghu and her delegation are currently on an official mission to Mauritius from 03 to 06 August 2022 in the context of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mauritius and China. The delegation was accompanied by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritius, Mr Zhu Liying, for the meeting with Prime Minister Jugnauth.
In a statement, the Special Representative highlighted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the Republic of Mauritius and the People’s Republic of China and during these past 50 years our two countries have provided mutual support in several sectors. The Sino-Mauritian friendly and collaborative ties are developing in favourable conditions, she rejoiced.
Ambassador Xu Jinghu further underscored that the meeting with the Prime Minister was friendly and fruitful. We reached a consensus that we need to work together in all sectors as cooperation will only mutually benefit both our countries and people, she indicated.
In addition, the Chinese Special Representative recalled that the two countries also collaborate on the international front with China always supporting the efforts of Mauritius on the issue of decolonisation and stands by Mauritius at the level of the United Nations. Mauritius, on the other hand, has always supported China with regards to defense, State sovereignty and territorial integrity, and pursues the One China policy for which China is highly grateful, she added.
