Charles Cartier has just been appointed CEO of Air Mauritius. He succeeds the Croatian Krešimir Kučko. But more importantly, Charles Cartier, who does not have any experience in aviation industry, will be the 11th CEO of the national airline since 2000.
Charles Cartier is currently president of the Outsourcing and Telecommunications Association of Mauritius (OTAM). In March 2015, he was appointed on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Mauritius. He has also held the position of Managing Director at Accenture in Mauritius and that of Chairman of the Economic Development Board (EDB) from 20 November 2017 until 2020.
His rise is due to Ken Arian. The former strongman of Pravind Jugnauth seems to have fallen from grace. Ken Arian has had a meteoric rise to power. He was the big boss from 2018 to 2019 when he was senior adviser in the Prime Minister’s Office .
Former president of the Outsourcing and Telecommunications Association of Mauritius, just as Charles Cartier, Ken Arian had the power to engage in discussions with members of the opposition in the National Assembly and to mediate between the government and the unions in times of crisis.
