Mrs Beebee Jobeda Korimbocus, born on 15 October 1923, celebrated her 100th birthday, this afternoon, in St Pierre, in presence of the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.
The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, the Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, as well as family members and friends of Mrs Korimbocus were present to celebrate her centennial birthday.
To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity offered Mrs Korimbocus a cheque of Rs 26 203; a vacuum cleaner; a bouquet; the centenarian medal and a certificate for her service. The National Solidarity Fund of the Ministry gave her a cheque of Rs 10 000. Gifts were also presented to her by the Senior Citizens Council.
Mrs Korimbocus, Dadi Jubeda, was born at Bois Cheri Road in Moka. She worked as maid servant and had two children, one son and one daughter, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She likes eating biryani and enjoys sewing as well as paying visits to relatives. She suffered a femoral fracture and is presently bedridden. Dadi Jubeda attributes her long life to her helpful nature, caring family and God’s grace.
