Budget Support Mission: Representatives Of The African Development Bank In Mauritius

As a follow up to the technical preparation mission under the Economic Recovery and Resilience Support Programme (ERRSP), representatives of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group are in Mauritius to conduct an appraisal of the budget support operation.

In this context, a meeting on the ERRSP was convened this morning in Port Louis with the goal of providing an update on agro-industrial development reforms and efforts, including policy objectives, predicted benefits, and impacts.

The meeting was chaired by the Senior Chief Executive​​​ of the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Medha Gunputh. The representatives of the AfDB including the Deputy Director General, South and Country Manager for Mauritius, Mr Mbekeani Kennedy; the Acting Manager of the Governance Department, Mr Kalayu Gebre; the Lead Economist, Mr George Kararach; and a team of technical experts and other stakeholders of the Ministry participated in the meeting.

Prior to the technical meeting, the Deputy Director General, South and Country Manager for Mauritius, Mr Mbekeani Kennedy, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Maneesh Gobin.

Issues pertaining to the water sector were also discussed while highlighting the need to develop mechanisms for better water management and to find solutions to address the pressing problem of drought in the country.

The Deputy Director General reiterated the support of the AfDB to the Mauritian Government in its future endeavors.

The representatives will have technical meetings with stakeholders of several ministries including the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, and the Ministry of Financial Services and Good Governance, amongst others.
