After his resignation from Linion Pep Morisyen, Bruneau Laurette announced a three-month retreat from activism. The ‘Vox Solidaire’ demonstration scheduled for Saturday 20 August has also been cancelled.
The ‘Vox Solidaire’ includes Bruneau Laurette, Ivann Bibi and Padma Utchanah. It is, above all, a citizens’ platform. Their request to the Police to organise a peaceful march was rejected as the law would not allow a platform of such nature, and unregistered, to hold such public demonstrations. They had in mind to peacefully protest against the government.
This is in line with Bruneau Laurette’s vow to stand down for three months. His reason: “For three years, we have given ourselves body and soul to the citizens both on the ground and in legal battles. In the meantime, the Opposition was taking full advantage of all their monetary and other privileges. It is important to give way to the Parliamentary Opposition and let them do what they are paid to do. They are in parliamentary recess for three months and they will have full time to work and prove to the citizens what they can do for them. In October, we will make an assessment“, said Bruneau Laurette.
