Senegal is among the 121 most influential countries in the world according to the 2023 ranking of the British firm Brand Finance, which published the results of its survey on March 2 during the annual Global Soft Power meeting. Senegal is ranked 16th out of 20 African countries and 103rd in the world. The three African countries of Egypt, South Africa and Morocco dominate the top of the African ranking. Mauritius gains 4 places in this ranking
The 3 most influential African countries in the world, Egypt, South Africa and Morocco, have all lost influence according to Brand Finance. Most of the continent’s countries have regressed on the 8 pillars of Soft Power established by the study: business and trade, governance, international relations, culture and traditions, media and communication, education and science, people and values, and sustainable future. Note, however, the significant progress of Botswana, Sudan, Seychelles, DRC and Senegal.
Overall, the big winners this year are Ukraine, which has moved up from 51st to 37th place, and the Gulf countries, which have been boosted by the success of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
