According to Madagascar’s port authority, 22 people were killed when a boat carrying them off Madagascar capsized as they tried to sail to the French island of Mayotte.
According to a statement from the Maritime and River Port Agency, the boat transporting 47 people capsized on Saturday in the waters off Ankazomborona in northern Madagascar.
The boat had a mishap, according to the agency, and 23 people on board were saved, while 22 bodies had been discovered. There was no sign of the other two.
The majority of those who had been rescued, according to a police officer, had fled in order to prevent being caught trying to get to Mayotte.
