Bérenger: The President Is Doing The Exact Opposite Of What SAJ Himself Said In 2003

Must Read

Paul Bérenger finds it deplorable that the President of the Republic has gone ahead with planned appointments to the Electoral Supervisory Commission and the Electoral Boundaries Commission. In addition to the renewal of the contract of another member.

This was at the MMM press conference on Saturday. Paul Bérenger advised Pradeep Roopun to go and re-read the speeches made in August 2003 when the MSM-MMM alliance, with Sir Anerood Jugnauth as Prime Minister, amended the Constitution to give more powers to the Head of State. “He is doing the exact opposite of what we did in 2003 and what SAJ himself said at the time,” said Paul Berenger.

The MMM leader has welcomed the country’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force’s grey list. He explained at a press conference on Saturday that the inclusion of Mauritius on this grey list, but also on the black list of the European Union, has caused much damage. For him, it should not be forgotten that if Mauritius found itself on this famous grey list, “it is the fault of the government”. He also said that the opposition did not say or do anything that could have delayed this exit. But he insisted that from now on, it will be necessary to ensure that institutions such as ICAC, FIU and FSC, among others, do their job because the danger of a return to the grey list exists.

Paul Bérenger also commented on Gayatree Dayal’s departure. He believes that it is deplorable the way the former MMM candidate is doing things. He recalled that Gayatree Dayal asked, after the last elections, to take a professional leave. “Now, don’t let her claim that the MMM’s own structures are not working. It is all made up,” he said. He also said that there is other ‘roder bout’ who could jump ship.
