Kavita Reedha, 39, also known as “Julie”, spent her first night behind bars at the Vacoas detention center on Thursday evening, March 7, following her arrest for child trafficking. The suspect, who operates a massage parlour on Route Royale, Beau-Bassin, sold a 14-year-old girl to customers for sex. Kavita Reedha, who has a previous record for the same offence, is currently on parole. She was brought before the Bail and Remand Court (BRC) in Port-Louis on Friday morning, March 8.
A policewoman from the Family Protection Brigade took the statement of this teenager, who lives in the Forest-Side area, concerning a case of child trafficking late in the afternoon of Thursday March 7. It took place in the presence of her maternal aunt, aged 37, who lives in Verdun.
On Tuesday February 20, her neighbor had taken her to a message salon on Route Royale in Beau-Bassin. She was introduced to a woman she knew as “Julie”. This woman handed her over to customers to have sex with them.
She told investigators that she was unable to produce the clothes she wore for analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Réduit. Kavita Reedha reported to the police every Saturday. She had been arrested last year by elements of the Centrale Criminal Investigation Division. The 30-year-old was placed in a cell at the Vacoas detention center, in the intensive care unit at Victoia Candos hospital.
The teenager was placed under observation at the Victoria Hospital in Candos, where the protocol for victims of sexual abuse has been put in place.
