Now widely available on the market, posture correctors are becoming increasingly popular. But are these orthoses really effective? Chiropractor Dr. Bronny Li Yig Pin answers.
Often used to relieve back pain, posture correctors are paramedical accessories that are worn to straighten the spine.
Very accessible, their use is not without danger according to Dr. Li Yig Pin: “They can be worn for 30 to 45 minutes to relieve chronic pain. But beyond that time, it is not recommended, especially for young people.
And for good reason, the back muscles won’t do their job properly: “Simply put, with a brace, your back muscles will become so lazy that they won’t function normally. This will bring even more pain.”
As for the doctor, he encourages you to start exercising: “In cases of chronic pain, it is best to consult a professional. After a diagnosis, the latter will recommend specific exercises to the patient on a case-by-case basis. This is the only solution if we really want to relieve back pain in the long term.
