Jean-Hubert Célerine, alias Franklin, is challenging Magistrate Shavina Jugnauth’s decision to extradite him to his sister island. The verdict was handed down on January 12.The case was called this Monday before Senior Puisne Judge Nirmala Devat. Through its representative, the Attorney General’s office, co-defendant in the case, has indicated that it is resisting this request. The case has been adjourned to the Supreme Court until February 12. The Attorney General’s office will then make known the reasons for its objection.
Franklin had been convicted in absentia on Reunion Island for drug trafficking and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment.
