The last day of the U20 national championships of athletics took place this Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the Maryse Justin stadium in Reduit was marked by the performances of Alvin Rughoodass and Océanne Moirt. They are the only athletes to have scored more than 900 points on the scoring table and were crowned best performer of the sprint-hurdles family.
Alvin Rughoodass was the king of the sprint with a sumptuous 100 m in 10.79 sec (949 points), one hundredth of a second off his best time. Then, he closed the day with a real tour de force in the 200m with a time of 21.59 sec (982 points). As for Océanne Moirt, she was credited with a time of 12.21 sec in the 100 m (950 points).
Other award winning athletes were: Lauryn Larose, (800m – 2.25.84 sec -746 points), Christopher Bonnapen (800m – 2.03.06 sec – 687 points) and Juliano Helene (5000m – 16.49. 4 sec – 515 points) in the long and short distance; Claire Joseph (long jump – 5m54 – 899 points) and Ian Gael Berger (triple jump – 14m38 – 888 points) in the jumping family; Thierry Minkieve (discus – 35m75 – 617 points) and Joyce Josephine (javelin – 35m32 – 623 points) in the throws.
Among those who won two titles at these championships are Alvin Rughoodass (100/200m), Yohan Mohes (3000m steeplechase/10,000m), Ian Gael Berger (long/triple jump) and Sefora Felix (400/400m hurdles).
On November 13 will be held the preliminaries of the U16 championships while the finals will be played on November 20.
